Bullying
Bullying can take place in, or outside of, any school. We work hard to prevent bullying but also have procedures in place to deal with any incidents of bullying which do happen. It is very important that everyone in the school community understands exactly what we mean when we talk about bullying. At school, we use the Anti-bullying Alliance definition which is:
The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. Bullying can be physical, verbal or psychological. It can happen face-to-face or online.
The ‘imbalance of power’ part of this definition is very important in deciding is a situation is bullying. Click here to find out more.
Children are learning to get along together and will inevitably fall out with their friends. They may say unkind things to each other or sometimes even physically hurt each other. However, every unkind act does not constitute bullying and whilst it is important for us to deal with any unkind behaviour, it is not helpful to label any child as a bully and we do not use this term in school.
In fact, we recognise that it is important to treat the bullying as a group activity where children have different roles. Take a look at our Anti-bullying policy or click here to find out more.
If you think your child has been the target of bullying please report it to school. You can:
- Encourage your child to speak to ANY member of staff in school
- Encourage your child to speak to the Anti-Bullying Ambassador or any Wellbeing Champion who will help them to speak to an adult
- Contact your class teacher via classDojo
- Contact Ms Houldsworth on head@littledigmoor.lancs.sch.uk or by phone on 01695724539
- Encourage your child to put a note in their class worry box
We take bullying very seriously and will work together to protect the target of bullying, stop the bullying behaviour, address the underlying attitudes, values and beliefs that have led to this and prevent the behaviour reoccurring.
If you, your child, or anyone you know is being bullied, you can find support here.
